NHS Stoma Care Nurse Training
We were delighted to have our HNS Stoma Care Nurse deliver a comprehensive training session to our Living at Home care team. The training focused on essential aspects of stoma care, including how to successfully change a pouch and an in-depth look at the three different types of stomas. Our team also learned to identify skin integrity issues and best practices for overcoming these challenges, ensuring that they can provide optimal care for clients with stomas as part of their daily health needs.
Safeguarding, Equality, and Diversity Training
We were delighted to welcome Tim Dalinger from Social Care Consultants to our Living at Home training suite. Tim delivered an engaging and informative session on safeguarding, equality, and diversity to our team. The training focused on key aspects of safeguarding vulnerable individuals, promoting equality, and embracing diversity within the workplace. Our team learned to identify and address safeguarding concerns effectively, understand the importance of equality in providing care, and appreciate the diverse backgrounds of our clients and colleagues.
Oral Hygiene Training with Seri from Gwen am Byth
Seri from Gwen am Byth delivered an informative training session to some of the Living at Home teams, emphasizing the importance of supporting clients with oral hygiene and basic mouth care. During the session, the team learned how to recognise issues within the mouth, explored different mouth care products, and developed practical skills to ensure excellent oral health for their clients.
Compression Stockings Applicator Training
Joanne delivered a training session on applying compression stockings to the Living at Home team, emphasising the importance of proper technique. Compression stockings treat and prevent conditions like varicose veins, lymphoedema, and deep vein thrombosis by improving blood circulation and reducing swelling. Joanne emphasised that, with proper care and monitoring, one can prevent complications like impaired skin integrity and pressure injuries.
This training is essential for all healthcare staff responsible for applying, removing, and caring for clients who require compression stockings.
Medication Training
Rachel delivered a comprehensive medication training session to a member of the Living at Home team, focusing on the critical aspects of medication administration and management. Proper medication handling is critical to ensuring that clients receive their medications safely and effectively, preventing errors and adverse reactions.
During the session, Rachel emphasised the importance of the “six rights” of medication administration: the right person, the right medication, the right dose, the right route, the right time, and the right to refuse. She also covered proper documentation practices, safe storage, and disposal of medications. Rachel highlighted the need for vigilance in monitoring clients for side effects and interactions and the importance of clear communication with clients and healthcare professionals.
Personal Care Training Session
Rachel delivered an informative personal care training session to members of the Living at Home team, focusing on essential techniques and best practices. Personal care includes activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting, which are vital for maintaining clients’ dignity, comfort, and overall well-being.
During the session, Rachel emphasised the importance of respecting clients’ privacy and preferences while providing care. She also covered proper hygiene practices, safe handling techniques, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) to prevent infection and ensure both client and carer safety. Rachel highlighted the need for clear communication, empathy, and patience to build trust and provide compassionate care.
Dementia Care Training Sessions
Tim Dalinger, from Social Care Consultants, recently delivered a dementia care training session to the Living at Home team. The training focused on understanding dementia stages, recognising symptoms, and implementing effective communication and behavioural management strategies.
Tim emphasised the importance of empathy, person-centred care, and creating a supportive environment to enhance client well-being. With the right approach, carers can significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with dementia.

Sara Stedy & Commode Training Session
Joanne delivered an informative training session on how to use the Sara Stedy and Commode to the Living at Home team, emphasising the importance of proper technique and safety.
The Sara Stedy is a versatile mobility aid that helps clients with limited mobility stand and transfer safely, and the commode offers a convenient and hygienic solution for toileting.
During the session, Joanne highlighted the key features and benefits of the Sara Stedy, including how to position it correctly and ensure client comfort and stability. She also demonstrated the correct procedures for using the commode, focusing on hygiene, safety, and client dignity. Joanne emphasised that, with proper use and regular maintenance, these aids can significantly enhance clients’ quality of life by promoting independence and reducing the risk of falls and injuries.
CPR Training Session
Claire delivered an engaging CPR training session to the Living at Home team, highlighting the crucial techniques required for effective emergency response. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is essential for reviving individuals experiencing cardiac arrest by maintaining blood flow to vital organs until professional medical help arrives.
